What an IP address tells others

Every website you visit sees your public IP address. It shows your internet provider (for example TM Unifi, Maxis, CelcomDigi or U Mobile) and a rough location, usually the city or state. It does not show your home address or your name.

Why your IP changes

Most home and mobile connections in Malaysia get a dynamic IP that changes when the router restarts or the phone reconnects. Mobile networks often share one IP among many users (CGNAT). If you need a fixed IP for a server, VPN or CCTV, ask your ISP for a static IP plan.

IPv4 and IPv6

IPv4 looks like 203.0.113.10. IPv6 looks like 2001:db8::1. Many Malaysian ISPs now give both. Websites may see either one depending on how you connect.

Keeping your IP private

A trusted VPN hides your IP from the websites you visit. Be careful with free VPN apps, which may sell your data. Never share remote desktop details, such as AnyDesk or TeamViewer codes, with someone who calls you claiming to be from a bank, PDRM or an ISP.

Frequently asked questions

Can someone find my house from my IP address?

No. An IP address shows your internet provider and an approximate area. Only your ISP can link it to a subscriber, and they release that only to authorities with legal grounds.

Why does the location show the wrong city?

IP location is an estimate based on where the ISP registers its address blocks. Mobile data is often shown at the operator's main hub, such as Kuala Lumpur.

What is the difference between public and private IP?

Private addresses like 192.168.x.x are used inside your home or office network. The public IP is the one your router uses on the internet, and that is what this page shows.
